Chet Baker & Company

Chet Baker & Company prides itself on delivering promised services to their clients. When the owners of Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio requested the company’s services, Baker and Company were already involved in an enormous project that required a very demanding schedule. Because they wanted to use Baker & Company, the Nationwide owners suggested that they form joint ventures and alliances with other masonry contractors, and expand exponentially to take on this new work.

Jeff Baker, the president of the company, felt sure that he didn’t want to change the culture of his company, nor did he want to hurriedly engage in the process of forming a joint venture with his competitor. Wanting to find a way to meet the arena owners’ request for their services, he consulted with Havens Limited to try to find a way to work on the project.

Through a suggestion from Jim Havens, Jeff explored and then suggested to the arena’s owners the option of dividing the project into two portions. With this option, the owners could directly contract with Chet Baker & Company, and also with one of its competitors, with clear responsibility for the work determined.

As a result, Baker consulted with Havens Limited to structure a unique relationship that incorporated the services of a Baker competitor to secure the contract for services. As a result, Chet Baker & Company completed one-half of the masonry work on the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

The arrangement proved successful for both Nationwide Arena and Chet Baker & Company not only in quality and timing, but in cost-effectiveness.

When Chet Baker & Company was asked to provide renovations to The Ohio Stadium, Jeff Baker called upon Havens Limited again in securing the contract.
