Newark Community Based Outpatient Clinic for Military Veterans

The groundbreaking ceremony for the state-of-the art, $1.8 million Newark Community Based Outpatient Clinic for military veterans was on Nov. 11, 2010.

Partners in Scout Development Ltd., a real estate development firm involving Columbus attorney Jim Havens and Newark physicians Don Jones and Alex Juan, were among those participating in the ceremony.

The Newark clinic is one of four associated with the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center in Columbus. Scout Development will construct and manage the 10,000-square-foot facility for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which is expected to serve 4,500 veterans. The outpatient clinic will replace an existing 3,400-square-foot clinic, currently serving nearly 2,670 veterans.

The clinic will be located at 1861 W. Main St. in Newark. Additional services will include audiology, a clinical pharmacy, a larger laboratory and a group treatment room.

Newark Surgery Center

Havens Limited assisted Dr. Don Jones and other investors with the development of The Newark Ambulatory Surgery Center, which opened in July 1998. As an experienced and capable investor, Jones had become frustrated with the routine practice of using traditional, commercial developers for such projects.

The surgery center has now become the 67,500-square-foot Medical Center of Newark, which includes 33 inpatient beds, four surgical suites, expanded imaging services, a medical laboratory, a pharmacy, a cafeteria and more. Medical and surgical treatment covers more than 23 specialties, including orthopedics, pain management, gastroenterology and general surgery.

The neighboring Newark Medical Office Building, a 60,000-square-feet facility, opened in November 1999. Learn More

Chet Baker & Company

Chet Baker & Company prides itself on delivering promised services to its clients. When the owners of Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, requested the company’s services, Baker & Company were already involved in another enormous project on a demanding schedule. But Nationwide owners suggested that Baker & Company expand and take on other masonry contractors to form joint ventures to complete the work they were offered.

Company President Jeff Baker didn’t want to change the culture of his company, nor did he want to quickly form a joint venture with his competitor. Wanting to find a solution to this problem, he consulted with Havens Limited.

After consulting with Jim Havens, Jeff explored the possibility of dividing the project into two portions, delineating responsibilities between his companies and one of his competitors. As a result, Havens Limited assisted in structuring a unique relationship that incorporated the services of a Baker competitor. Chet Baker & Company completed half of the masonry work on the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The arrangement proved successful for both Nationwide Arena and Chet Baker & Company not only in quality and timing, but also in cost-effectiveness, too.

When Chet Baker & Company was asked to provide renovations to The Ohio Stadium, Jeff Baker once again called upon Havens Limited to assist with securing the contract. Learn More
