The Medical Center of Newark (MCN) is a general hospital designed and owned by physicians and other investors. Completed in 2007, the hospital involved a $15 million, 45,000-square-foot expansion of the existing Newark Ambulatory Surgery Center. The final project measures 60,000 square feet and served nearly 8,000 surgical procedures during the past year. MCN features 33 inpatient beds, imaging services, a laboratory, pharmacy services, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pre-admission testing, 24/7 physician coverage, and more than 20 other medical specialties.

In Ohio, the village of Canal Winchester received its first multi-tenant medical office building in 1996 when a group of physicians joined with Calgary Real Estate Development to construct the $1.3 million project. The 12,000-square-foot facility is located near Gender Road and Rt. 33.

In 1999 Calgary Real Estate Development Ltd. purchased this commercial office building for $1.6 million. A $200,000 to $300,000, six-month renovation followed. Calgary Development partners, including attorney Jim Havens and real estate appraiser Samuel D. Koon, purchased and renovated the 20,000 square-foot building. With an adjacent 65-space parking lot, the downtown building is within footsteps of the Ohio State Capitol, the Hyatt on Capital Square, the Ohio and Southern theatres, the Riffe Tower, Huntington Center, and the historic German Village community.
